China to host Iran’s ‘Najibeh’

The 23rd Shanghai Int'l Film Festival of China is to host Iran’s film ‘Najibeh’

The 23rd Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) of China is set to host Iran’s film ‘Najibeh’

‘Najibeh’ was reportedly nominated for the Asian New Talent Award at the festival along with nine other movies.

“Najibeh is a religious and poor old woman who wants to commit a crime because she needs to go to prison for a while,” a synopsis for the film reads.

Written and directed by Mostafa Gandomkar, the film is starring Shohreh Soltani, Manzar Lashgari and Payam Ahmadinia.

Earlier reports said the festival will also screen the Iranian films ‘Just 6.5’, ‘Crab’ and ‘The Badger’.

The 23rd SIFF will open on July 25 and runs until August 7.

The festival was originally scheduled for June 13-22, but it was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
